Vanguard Steel Works was founded in 1962 by Frank Esparza Sr., a Kaiser Steel pipe welder who'd saved enough on overtime to lease a 4,000 sq ft shop on Cherry Avenue. Today his grandson runs the company. The shop is still on Cherry Avenue. The work is still about a clean weld.
Frank Sr. used to say that a fabricator earns trust the same way you earn a weld certification. One coupon at a time. No shortcuts, and the inspector decides when it's done. We've kept the same idea running through three generations of owners and four buildings on the same street.
Frank Jr. brought the beam line and Caltrans. Marisol brought the QMS, the apprenticeship, and the safety culture that put us at an EMR of 0.62. None of them lowered the standard for what comes off the floor. Which is the only reason refiners, water districts and the State of California still keep us on speed dial after sixty-three years.

Building 1 is plate fab, plasma table, press brake, rolls. Building 2 is structural and machining. The yard between them moves on three bridge cranes and a Mantis 35-ton crawler. Tours by appointment for active bidders.
Vanguard runs a STSC-supported safety program with a full-time safety director, daily pre-task plans, weekly toolbox talks and quarterly third-party audits. Our EMR has been under 0.70 for nine consecutive years. We treat near-misses like incidents, and we treat the JSA like a working document. Not a piece of paper that lives on a clipboard.
