Family-owned. Forty-two years in the valley.

Patterson Oilfield Services was founded by Walt Patterson in 1983 as a single hot-oil truck running out of his driveway in east Bakersfield. Forty-two years later, his son and grandson run the same company. Same name, same yard, three generations of Patterson men working the same fields.

SECTION 01 // COMPANY TIMELINE

Three generations of Patterson men.

Three Patterson generations have run this company. Each one started in the field. Walt drove the first hot-oil truck himself for nine years before hiring anyone else.

1983
01

Walt Patterson founds the company.

One hot-oil truck purchased used from a retiring contractor. Walt runs paraffin clearing for two local independents working the South Belridge field. He sleeps three hours a night for the first eighteen months and pays the truck off in two years.

1992
02

First steam generator. Cyclic steam services launch.

Walt buys his first 25,000 lb/hr trailer-mounted steam unit. Patterson begins offering cyclic steam stimulation services to operators in Kern River and Midway-Sunset. Walt's son Dale, twenty-two, joins the company full-time.

2001
03

Taft yard opens. Pulling units added.

Patterson opens its second yard in Taft to service the South Belridge and Elk Hills fields without long deadhead trips. The first three pulling units are added to the fleet. Crew headcount crosses thirty.

2014
04

Dale Patterson takes over. Coalinga yard opens.

Walt steps back to a board role at sixty-eight. Dale takes the operator chair. A third yard opens in Coalinga to serve Cymric, San Ardo, and the western-edge fields. ISNetworld and Avetta certification achieved.

2023
05

Third generation joins. Fleet hits 23 units.

Dale's son Cole joins the company in field operations after a degree in petroleum engineering from Texas Tech. EMR drops to 0.71. Fleet crosses 23 units. Patterson reaches forty-two years in continuous family ownership.

SECTION 02 // LEADERSHIP

The crew running the yards.

Every Patterson runs the field before they run the desk. Dale spent seventeen years on a hot oiler before he took the operator chair, and Cole worked two summers in the yard before his first office day.
