What we do

Adoption, fostering, volunteering, and the long stay.

Adoption matchmaking

Forever homes · 250+ placements per year

We don't run a "first come, first served" adoption table. Every adopter gets a real conversation with our matchmaking team, and every animal gets a chance at the right fit. Not just the fastest one.

  • 10-minute online application + phone call with our team
  • Meet-and-greet at the sanctuary (no rush. Bring kids and other pets)
  • Take-home with 30-day check-in and lifetime support hotline
  • Return policy: any animal, any time, no judgment

Foster care

40 active foster families · all expenses covered

Fostering is the fastest way to save the most lives. Every foster family triples our kennel capacity. And gives animals the home environment they need to be ready for adoption.

  • 2-week to 3-month commitments. Pick what fits your life
  • We cover food, supplies, vet care, and emergency boarding
  • 24/7 foster hotline + mentor for your first placement
  • Specialized tracks: medical, behavioral, neonatal kittens

Volunteer roles

80+ active volunteers · in-person & remote

We need help every day of the week. Two-hour shifts, eight-hour Saturdays, remote roles you can do from your couch. There's something for almost anyone who wants to be useful.

  • Dog walkers, kennel cleaners, cat socializers
  • Horse handlers & farm crew (training provided)
  • Remote: photographers, writers, lawyers, accountants
  • Event teams: adoption days, fundraisers, school visits

Lifetime sanctuary care

42 permanent residents · the Forever Promise

Some animals come to us too old, too sick, or too traumatized to be adopted. We keep them. Forever. They eat well, they get vet care, and they live their last years on 40 acres with people who love them.

  • 42 current permanent residents (dogs, cats, horses, goats)
  • Average lifetime cost per resident: $2,400 / year
  • Funded entirely by our $100/month sponsor tier
  • Sponsors get quarterly photos, updates, and visiting rights

How fostering works

Four steps from "I'm thinking about it" to a dog on your couch.

1

Apply

Ten-minute online form. We ask about your home, schedule, and other pets. No judgment, no perfect-home test.

2

Home visit

One of our team comes by for thirty minutes to meet you and your space. We answer your questions and you answer ours.

3

Match

We pair you with an animal based on your home, energy level, and experience. First-time foster? You get a senior with simple needs.

4

Foster

Take them home. Text us anytime. We deliver food, cover vet bills, and check in weekly. You provide a couch and some patience.

Volunteer with us

Two hours a week. Three hundred animals helped per year.

You don't need to be a "dog person." You don't need experience. You just need to show up. We'll train you on everything from leashes to litter boxes to the gentle art of catching a goat.

"Best decision I made post-retirement. I'm here every Tuesday and Saturday. They saved me as much as I saved them."

Most volunteer shifts are two hours and you can pick your own schedule. We require a one-hour orientation before your first shift. Held every other Saturday at 9 a.m.

Common questions

The stuff people ask before signing up.

What if I foster and fall in love with the animal?

It happens all the time. We call it "foster fail" and it's our favorite kind of fail. You'll get first right to adopt, with the same matchmaking process as any adopter. About 30% of our fosters end up adopting at least one of their fosters.

I work full-time. Can I still foster?

Yes. Many of our best foster homes are working professionals. We match you with an animal who fits your schedule. Adult dogs who sleep most of the day, or cats who are perfectly happy on their own from 9 to 5. We don't place puppies or neonatal kittens with full-time-away households.

Do I need experience to volunteer?

No. We have roles that require zero experience (laundry, yard work, photography help) and we'll train you on anything else. Our orientation covers the basics, and you'll always have an experienced volunteer or staff member nearby on your first few shifts.

Can my kids volunteer with me?

Kids 8 and up can volunteer with a parent. Kids 14+ can do solo shifts after an orientation. We have a Junior Volunteer track that runs Saturday mornings and is a favorite for families. Younger kids are welcome to visit anytime with you on Saturday tours.

How long does the adoption process take?

Most adoptions close within 7–14 days from application to take-home. We don't rush. That's how matches go wrong. But we also don't drag our feet. If an animal is a great fit and your home is ready, we move quickly. If there are questions, we slow down and work through them together.

What does monthly sponsorship actually cover?

At $100/month, you cover roughly half the annual care cost ($2,400) for one of our permanent residents. Food, vet care, grooming, and daily handling. You'll get a sponsor packet with their story, quarterly photos and updates, and an open invitation to visit "your" animal any Saturday.

About this design template

Second Chance Sanctuary is an animal rescue nonprofit design template.

This is a design template that shows how Albertson Designs approaches nonprofit websites. The structure, photography, typography, and copy were built around how a real nonprofit business actually operates. Generic about-services-contact patterns are not here.

When Albertson Designs builds your site, we use designs like this as a reference for color, structure, and category vocabulary. Every line of code, every photo, and every word is custom for your business. Most full builds ship in four to eight weeks depending on scope.
