Wycliffe is intentionally a 6–12 school. We do not split the lower and upper schools across two campuses, because the seven-year arc of a Wycliffe education is one continuous thing.
Grades VI–VIII · ages 11–14
The foundations. Three years devoted to building the habits. Close reading, careful writing, mathematical fluency, the discipline of a second language. That the upper school will demand. Class sizes capped at fourteen.
Grades IX–XII · ages 14–18
The serious work. Four years organized around the Harkness seminar, the writing tutorial, advanced electives in every department, and the two signature commitments: Sustained Inquiry in eleventh grade and the Senior Thesis in twelfth.
Four commitments that appear on no other school's curriculum in quite this form. We are asked about them in every admissions interview.
Every Wycliffe senior writes a thesis. Forty pages, original research, advised one-to-one by a faculty mentor across the spring of junior year and the entirety of senior year, defended orally before a three-faculty committee in May. The thesis lives in the Pell Library archive in perpetuity.

A two-term seminar of twelve students that spends two terms reading deeply in a single question. Past topics: What is justice? Is moral progress real? What does it mean to know something? Students write four essays of increasing weight, the last of which is publicly defended.

Every Wycliffe student begins Latin or Greek in seventh grade and continues through tenth at minimum. Students who choose to continue to Latin V or Greek V read Vergil, Cicero, Tacitus, Plato, or Homer in the original. This is not optional. This is what we do.

For students whose interests run quantitative: post-AP electives in number theory, organic chemistry synthesis, neuroscience, computational physics, and discrete mathematics. Many electives culminate in independent research suitable for the Senior Thesis.

Eight faculty, six with doctorates. Curriculum organized around twelve core texts read in common, supplemented by genre electives in poetry, the novel, and dramatic literature.
Five faculty teaching Latin I through Latin V, Greek I through Greek V, and the Classical Civilization seminar. The largest dedicated classics faculty of any New England independent school.
Six faculty covering ancient, medieval, early modern, and modern world history; AP US History; AP European History; and three advanced seminars including the History & Theory tutorial.
Eight faculty across biology, chemistry, and physics, four with research backgrounds. Eight research-grade laboratories. Original-research independent study is available to seniors.
Seven faculty teaching from Pre-Algebra through Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Number Theory, and the post-BC elective Discrete Mathematics & Combinatorics.
The Wycliffe College Counseling office is staffed by four counselors who divide the senior class among themselves so that no counselor advises more than thirty students at a time. Counseling begins formally in tenth grade and runs through graduation. Three counselors are former independent-school college admissions officers; the fourth is a former dean at a NESCAC college.
We do not have a list of schools we “send students to.” We have a process of helping each student find the right fit, which sometimes means Harvard and sometimes means a small Catholic liberal arts college you have never heard of. The match matters more than the prestige.

Decisions released by March 10. Enrollment contracts and financial-aid letters arrive together. Reply by April 10.

Wycliffe awards more than $4.1 million in need-based financial aid each year. Awards are determined by the School and Student Services (SSS) profile and average $32,000 per recipient. We do not award merit scholarships. Every dollar is need-based.
Families considering Wycliffe are encouraged to inquire about aid before they assume the cost is out of reach. Roughly one in three current students could not attend without it.
